Bodybuilding Diet - eat like the pros
Eating enough of the right food is essential
for building muscle and keeping what you've gained. Follow the guidelines
below to gain some serious mass:
- Eat enough calories: If your daily caloric intake is greater than
your daily caloric expendature, your body is said to be in an anabolic
state. Your muscles will maintain their size, and gaining more will
be accomplished by working out proerly and regularly.
- Eat enough carbs: Carbs are fuel for your muscles and prevent
your body from eating up your much-needed protein for energy. Having
enough carbs in your body also helps regulate other important muscle-building
biological processes.
- Eat enough protein: They say you should eat 1 gram of protein
for every pound of body mass you have. Protein is one of the most
important elements in building solid muscle. Good sources of protein
are fish, chicken, beef, whey, and egg whites.
- Eat a good pre-workout meal: You should try to eat some good,
slow-burning carbs before you hit the gym. Pasta and rice will provide
you with lots of energy in the form of carbs when you work out.
- Eat a good post-workout meal: This should consist of fast-burning
carbs and protein. You need these to recover from your workout.
You break your muscles down so they can grow back larger, and eating
a good meal or drinking a good meal replacement or protein shake
is essential to provide good recovery after you work out. Try to
do this asap after you work out - 1 hour should be the max.
- Spread your meals out: Any pro bodybuilder will tell you to eat 6 smaller meals per day instead of stuffing yourself 3 times daily. This spreads out nutrient absorbtion so you're getting all you can from your high-quality food.
